Yayoi Kusama show at the Victoria Miro gallery

A couple of Saturday's ago, I was lucky enough to get the chance to see the Yayoi Kusama show at the Victoria Miro gallery. Being on social media, you tend to end up seeing the same photos of certain art shows over and over. This was one of them. The bright yellow pumpkins were all over my social media, so I needed to go and visit them for myself.

There was a giant queue outside the gallery. This was so strange, this show had really hit a mainstream audience. We queued for 10mins, and then we were let inside. I thought to myself, wow that was quick, however as soon as you walk through the door you see lots of different queues around the gallery. I didn't do too much research into the show, as I do like to experience art first hand, rather than read up too much about it. So the queues I did not expect.

We were taken straight to the back of the gallery and outside. The first infinity room we would visit would be the Where the Lights in My Heart Go. The outside of the gallery was beautiful. very peaceful indeed. This infinity room was wonderful. We only had 30 seconds in each room, but this one I felt like I faded away into nothing. Space, life, everything. For those few seconds life didn't feel real, I'm not sure how I felt, but I was peaceful. My eyes blurred and I felt like I was somewhere else. I am glad I didn't snap a photo while I was in that room. This room had a deep impact on me, I didn't even reach for my phone. For me, someone who is addicted to their phone, it took everything away. Breathtaking indeed.

Afterwards I enjoyed the surrounding, and there were mirrors everywhere. It was very peaceful, even though everyone around me was taking photos and uploading them straight to social media, hashtags and everything. It's a new concept for me. Of course I love social media, but it was weird for me to be in a gallery and people were continuously looking at social media. I am all for taking photos and sharing the love of art, but first please look at the art through your actually eyes, rather than a phone screen, experience it, and then photograph.

The second room we went into was Chandelier of Grief. All I remember of this room was the fact it was so bright. It went on forever, and sparkled so bright. I didn't really have an emotional connection to this room, it was just super pretty.

Then it was time to queue up for ages to finally see the famous pumpkins. All the Eternal Love I Have for the PumpkinsWe did wait for a long time, but it was pretty special.

The whole room was glowing. It really did go on forever, these infinity rooms just seemed to never end. You end up getting lost in these rooms. I feel like they are drugs. They tease you, you fall into this amazing unknown place. The time goes by, and you don't really know how long you have been there. Yet you know you only have 30 seconds, but time moves in a weird way. Then suddenly the door opens and you feel like you are being ripped out and pulled back to the earth again. These rooms really did feel like that. Make sure if you are in London you check out this beautiful show, it really is worth the queues.

London Baby

ah London baby! went to London with my best friends yesterday; Mandy and Charlotte. so much fun was had. i miss them ever so much, and it was so nice to hang out. it was a fun day filled with laughs and art. i went to see the Pop Life show at the Tate modern, and wow, that was amazing! i lived and breathed that show.i really couldn't get enough of it. wow. amazing. the only annoying thing was i couldn't take any photos. the show made me feel sad, happy and over blown by art...and that hasn't happened in a while. my super favorite part of the show was a video by Takashi Murakami of Kirsten Dunst singing Turning Japanese. it was beautiful, such a amazing video, (even though the song has another meaning). i watched it like 6-7 times. Kirsten looked wonderful, i think blue hair suits her.while in London, i got a little excited when i was greeted by a poster in the tube..ah it reminds me of a post i did a long time ago.after the Tate we went to the Saatchi gallery. ah i love it. its in such a lovely place, and the gallery is giant, with lots of room to breath. wonderful. my favourite piece in the show was Mr clock face, aka; Watchman by Ryan Johnson.i hope everyone is well, and super fun things are happening. peace to you all.
ps, if anyone wants any names of the artist's work in the photos, just let me know.

fly away to a land far far away

i just wanted to post a picture of my wall.. as the very wonderful The crow and the crab posted a picture of her wall and i thought it seemed like a good idea...so here is mine! :)
another day goes by..listening to people talk about art...and me making art. i thought i would show you a little pic of my studio space...(i need to take photos of my work for a talk i am doing next week, and thought i would take one of my space)
just a few more pictures of my little landscapes...today i started to create one of my creatures...i will keep you posted on how its going.
yesterday i went looking through a few vinyl bins and found an old Stevie nicks album, i love the image so much. my dad tried to get it for me a while ago...its fab. and it was only £1.80.
....oh yeah i also forgot to say about these napkins at the exhibiton. one of the artists that belongs to backlit saw damien hirst in new york walking down the street, she asked for his autograph. he wrote on a napkin; his autograph plus a little drawing of a shark. so a few artists at backlit deciced to spend all day trying to recreate this on napkins just for fun, and adding their own style to each drawing. they created loads of hand drawn ones to give away with drinks on the opening night....and here is the one i got with my drink! just a bit of fun! :)
i am just watching the holiday...oh it makes me wish it was christmas time...and that i was at home...i cannot wait!

oh i decided to wear my very cute necklace i got a couple of weeks ago. its so sweet. the guy who makes these is so nice i love it! .i went to London on Monday and looked at art. i love going to visit art galleries..it makes me smile..and feel very arty. today i had another booster workshop, which is a workshop with a theme, my one is about using found objects and thinking about landscapes. within my work i am thinking about creating odd animals and the 'lands' or 'worlds' they may come from. i created one little world today. i have made quite a few now, this is one of them;
while in London, we went to a few shops..i got a very cute deer and some new vinyl toys. yay.

play that record again!

ah still the weather is annoying me!! waking up to rain and then sun and then rain again. another day of pottering around town... i went to a show at a gallery today. The show was called 'Cover Versions'. it is an exhibition of recycled record sleeves- revamped and reinvented by Artists working in a variety of mediums. it sounded like a really cool show, but when i went and had a look i kinda felt bad. these really odd record sleeves had been painted, cut up, stuck bits to them...i know its all in the name of art...but it still felt wrong. some of them had been painted beautiful. there were some controversial ones, which included some Beatles and John Lennon covers with 'blood' (or red paint) and Yoko on. It still did not feel right that the artists had done this. It kinda felt like someone had defaced a book or something. But i then thought the records must have belonged to the artists. It was really interesting to see how the artists wanted to change the sleeves with their own views and feelings.

when i got in i started looking at my cds...i wondered if these will get defaced in a few years for the sake of art.
